Dinas now find themselves top but Romilly have a game in hand and have the advantage of knowing that 26 points from their remaining 2 fixtures will be enough to secure the Munro Cup for this season.

Gameweek 11: Wednesday 19th July 2023

Week 11 of this year’s Munro Cup took place last night and the league is now really starting to take shape with just 4 weeks remaining of the season.

The top two in the table Barry Romilly & Dinas Powis continue to look the favourites as they both used home advantage to gain big wins, whilst securing maximum points as a result. A well stacked Barry Romilly side beat Penarth Belle Vue by 66 shots whilst Dinas were made to work a little bit harder by an in-form Millwood side but they eventually won by 28 shots.

The biggest game of the week came on Barry Island as Barry Athletic welcomed Penarth to the 4 Wood Green. The loser of this game knew that it would put an end to their Munro Cup hopes. The game was close for the majority due to a strong rink performance by Colin Grant & co for Penarth but eventually home advantage shone through as Barry ran out winners by 24 shots & picking up 12 points as a result. The Stags are still 33 points off the summit but they do have 2 games in hand.

Windsor are now realistically the only other team other than Romilly, Dinas or The Ath who would win the Munro Cup and they kept up their faint hopes with a battling 16 shot victory at Sully Sports. Windsor recorded 2 winning rinks & a drawn rink to walk away with 11 points in the bag.

Rhoose continue their slide down the table after starting the season brightly as they put in another dismal home performance to lose to Sully by 24 shots.

The two remaining fixtures saw Cadoxton cruise to a crushing 39 shot victory at home to Cowbridge with maximum points secured whilst The Murch & Barry Central played out an entertaining 63-63 draw with the points being shared evenly.

Gameweek 10 : Wednesday 12th July 2023

Another week has passed in the Munro Cup and it’s still looking all to play for at the top of the table as 5 of the top 6 managed to secure priceless victories.

A strong looking Barry Romilly side took to Rhoose looking to avenge last year’s defeat and they did it in some style. Winning by 61 shots and picking up maximum points in the process. Club Captain Clive Collins & his rink led the way with a storming 43-4 victory.

Dinas Powis put in a very stylish performance at Windsor to secure a 30 shot victory and picking up 13 out of the 14 points on offer in return. This win will no doubt strengthen Dinas’ title credentials whilst severely hampering Windsor’s chances of success.

Barry Athletic also kept up their slim title hopes by picking up 13 points on the artificial at Cowbridge whilst Penarth hammered Barry Central by 70 shots but could dropping 1 rink by 1 shot could prove costly for the Rectory Road outfit when the final league table comes to rest?

Millwood kept up their very impressive run by winning their fifth midweek game on the bounce at home to Llantwit. Could Millwood upset the apple cart this year and win their maiden Munro Cup?!?

The other 2 matches saw a rare Sully Double victory as they both secured great away wins at Belle Vue (Sully Sports) and Murch (Sully) – both teams picking up 12 points in the process.

Wednesday 28th June

Gameweek 8 got underway last night in difficult wet conditions but 7 full results were provided, albeit one was conceded by Cowbridge due to a fixture mistake their end. As such the full 14 Points were given to Murch & +30 Shots. This decision was made with the blessing of both captains.

This year’s Munro Cup looks like being one of the most competitive for years as at least 6 clubs still have a strong chance of coming out on top. Always improving Millwood had the best result of the week as they toppled Barry Athletic at home with a strong team performance, picking up 10 points in the process to go along with their 10 shot victory.

The closest game of the night was on the Artificial down Rhoose as one Dinas Powis rink done the damage, winning 26-6, to cover the 3 losing rinks and pick up the overall victory. Rhoose will be disappointed to lose this game but take 6 consolation points home for their efforts.
Barry Romilly & Windsor now occupy the top two places in the league after big home wins over Sully Sports & Cadoxton.

Two Matches finished with identical scorelines as both Penarth & Belle Vue secured 60-41 victories over Sully & Llantwit Major respectively in shortened games due to the weather. The only one difference was that Penarth only picked up 12 points, whilst Belle Vue claimed all 14 points on offer.

Wednesday 21st June:

As we approach the halfway mark of the Munro Cup it is truly proving to be a very competitive one with at least 8 clubs still in the hunt for the title.

The juiciest tie of this gameweek was at Dinas Powis as they welcomed top of the table Barry Romilly. Romilly started well and led for a lot of the game but a good comeback by the rink skipped by Gareth Griffiths, accompanied with Paul Marks’ rink winning comfortably led Dinas to a 3 shot victory and 10 welcome points, to move within 2 points of Romilly at the top of the table.

Two other clubs bidding for the title clashed at Barry Island as The Athletic welcomed unbeaten Penarth Windsor. The Athletic team were always in control and looked good for 12 points at the half way mark but a collapse from one home rink led to Windsor snatching an unlikely 4 points to make the scoreline look better than looked possible.

Millwood continued their good form as they cruised to a dominating victory at bottom of the table Barry Central, running out winners by 47 shots and picking up maximum points.

A cracker of a close encounter was had in Llantwit where the home team just prevailed, winning by a single shot over local rivals Rhoose who put in a fantastic fight but only left with 2 points for their efforts. There was also success for Penarth & Belle Vue who stormed to impressive victories over Cowbridge & Cadoxton respectively.

Sully BC won the battle of the Sully Village as their experience proved vital in a 21 shot victory at Sully Sports, picking up 12 welcome points in the process.
